Earl Third In Sepang Sprint Race

After an eventful start leading to a delay and shorter race Earl remained 3rd in the race.

 

LIVE TEXT UPDATES FROM SEPANG 

Flag Switzerland wins the Sprint race for the third year running. It's the fifth different winner in five races this season.

Lap 11 France stay second, with New Zealand third. Portugal beats Ireland for fourth.

Lap 10 Portugal is now pushing New Zealand hard for third.

Lap 9 New Zealand gives second place back to France on the final straight. He was told by his team that he would get a drive-through penalty for the pit-stop if he didn't.

Lap 8 Great Britain has gone back out to try and get fastest lap. Italy is under investigation.

Lap 7 So the order is Switzerland, New Zealand, France, Portugal, Ireland, Netherlands, Italy, Australia.

Lap 5 Netherlands leads, but Jeroen is about to make a pit stop.

Lap 5 Jani makes his stop and Switzerland stays out in the lead.

Lap 5 New Zealand is under investigation for the pit lane stop.

Lap 5 France makes a poor stop, and New Zealand get to keep the position. Earl Bamber runs alongside France when exiting and leaves the pit ahead. It looks a questionable move.

Lap 5 The pit stop window is open. Many cars come in.

Lap 4 Jani now has a 2.3-second lead at the front. We've seen this before.

Lap 3 Indonesia has lost 13th to Monaco's Clivio Piccione. It's a great move at Turn 1.

Lap 2 Malaysia has a puncture. The home fans groan as he crawls back to the pits.

Lap 2 Zaugg hits Fauzy!


Lap 2 South Africa tries to grab the position back at Turn 3.

Lap 1
Malaysia is in the action. Fauzy grabs eighth from South Africa at the final turn.

Lap 1 Jeroen Bleekemolen grabs seventh round the outside of Mexico at Turn 9.

Lap 1 Switzerland grabs the lead.

11:32 Watts is stuck in first gear it seems.

11:32 The cars are coming round to take the green flag.

11:30 Great Britain is having problems. Danny Watts has his hands in the air while everyone starts behind the safety car.

11:27 Three minutes to go before the restart.

11:25 USA, Brazil and India are all under invesitgation by the race stewards. Not a surprise, that.

11:23 Marco Andretti has been on TV. He said he got into fourth gear before the Indian car checked up and he said he nowhere to go.

11:21 Australia's John Martin had a lucky escape. He dived left in the accident and nearly hit the wall. He survived with little damage.

11:19 The race will be restarted at 11:30.

11:15 A TV replay shows that the engine note of the India car went high, and then suddenly dropped moments before the pile up. It looks like a concertina effect of cars checking up.

11:14 The race is down to 11 laps. They are making them line up in grid order behind the safety car.

11:10 Felipe Guimarares has just done a TV interview. He is not a happy man. He says that the USA car ahead just stopped and he had nowhere to go.

11:10 All drivers seem to be uninjured, despite the severity of the accident.

11:09 The cars are stopped at the final turn while the track is cleaned up.

11:07 There has been a huge startline shunt. The USA car of Marco Andretti hit the Brazilian car of Felipe Guimaraes. The India car of Narain Karhtikeyan is also involved. It's a huge accident, and it looks like it was before the red lights even went out.

11:03 The race is red flaged immediately. They didn't make it to the first corner.

11:00 The cars are away for the start of Feature race.
